All the world's a library

I have just registered with Book Crossing - it's an amazing concept! I saw a book propped on a vacant cycle machine at the gym the other day and I wondered if it had been released... Looking up http://www.bookcrossing.com today, I saw that it wasn't mentioned, but several others are at large in my neighbourhood, so I might just go hunting!

Three beautiful things

Read a great book recently - Enough by John Naish - which really spoke to me. The author proposes that we have really ENOUGH information, stuff, food, etc and that Western society's endless striving for 'evermore' is making us all ill, individually and collectively. Hoo boy....

He cited the blog Three Beautiful Things as being a great example of the conscious decision to swim against the more-more drive; instead, the writer of the blog chooses to be grateful for every little thing.

She has my vote.

Banksy, you rule Britannia

Banksy - the British street art phenomenon - may have lost his anonymity and with it, perhaps some of his edge, but his work still has the ability to shake me, wobble me, knock me out.



This one, below, is my all-time favourite, and is a permanent fixture on my fridge - high praise indeed!

Daniel Rozin

Daniel Rozin is my latest find. Among other things, he creates mirrors from non-reflective materials, such as wood. I think the one I like best is the snow mirror above. Check out his work at http://www.smoothware.com/danny/

Polish digital clock

This digital clock, designed by university students in Poland, took 4 years to perfect. I think it is extraordinary because it combines the immediacy of digital with the increasingly neglected art of writing by hand!

What in the world?

The 2007 exhibition Running the Numbers by artist Chris Jordan blew me away. It is a social commentary on the excesses of American society and culture and the message comes across loud and clear: it's not for the faint-hearted.
